
Golf Resumes at Quail Valley Collegiate Invite

HUNTSVILLE – The Sam Houston State men's golf team is set to continue its fall season at the Quail Valley Collegiate Invitational in Vero Beach, Fla., hosted by McNeese on Oct. 14-16.
The 54-hole tournament features 18 holes each on Sunday, Monday and Tuesday. The field includes host McNeese, Arkansas State, Jacksonville, Lipscomb, Little Rock, Louisiana-Monroe, Maryland, Memphis, Michigan State, Nebraska, North Florida, Notre Dame, South Florida and Texas State.

The Sam Houston State squad returns to action after a ninth-place finish at the Trinity Forest Invitational on Sept. 25. Junior William Holcomb was the top finisher among the Bearkat crew and posted an overall score of 208 for the invitational. Tying for 15th overall, Holcomb fired a 66-stroke third round, which marked the Kats' lowest round of the event. He recorded three consecutive birdies on the first three holes, as well as back-to-back birdies on holes 12 and 13. His final birdie of the day came on hole 16.
Noah Steele and Austen Christiansen tied for 26th and both finished the invitational with 213 on the scorecard. Steele broke open the day with an eagle on hole one and collected three birdies over the course of his 68-stroke round. Christiansen posted his second 70-stroke round of the invitational.
Newcomer Jack Randle, who competed as an individual, tied for 45th after shooting 74 on the final day. He finished with an overall score of 217 after shooting a 69-stroke round yesterday afternoon.
Grayson Blunt tallied 226 while Camden DeBonis finished closely behind with 227.
Holcomb, who averages 71.50 strokes per round, leads the crew in par 3 and par 4 scoring while Camden DeBonis paces the pack in par 5 scoring. DeBonis and Blunt have each recorded a pair of Eagles and Holcomb has collected one. As a team, the Bearkats have racked up 89 birdies.
Final Details
