SHSU Tennis Set to Host Bearkat Invitational Presented by The City of Huntsville

HUNTSVILLE – With the fall season coming to a close, the Sam Houston State tennis team is set to host the 2nd Annual
The four-team invitational is set to begin at 9 a.m. on Saturday, Nov. 3 and will conclude the following day with a 9 a.m. start. The field for the invitational includes host Sam Houston, Texas A&M-Corpus Christi, UTRGV and UIW.

The Bearkats made a strong run at the ITA Regional Tournament, held at the campus of Texas A&M, where Lusine Chobanyan, Karla De La Luz Montalvo and Sahaja Yamalapalli all ground out tough victories.
Despite dropping her first singles match, Chobanyan bounced back and fought hard for a second-place finish in the consolation bracket. She ran away with 2-0 wins in her first three matches and ground out a tough 2-1 win over Texas State's Rishona Lewis to advance to the semifinals. Chobanyan advanced to the consolation championship round but dropped two sets (6-2, 6-4) to finish second.
After receiving a first-round bye, De La Luz Montalvo and Yamalapalli picked up a 6-4 doubles win over UIW's Victoria Kareh and Brandelyn Fulgenzi. The pair fought valiantly in their next match but fell 6-4 to Rice's Victoria Smirnova and Anna
