Kats Sit Fourth After Day One of Lone Star Invite

SAN ANTONIO, Texas – Freshman Grayson Blunt paced the Sam Houston State men's golf team as the Bearkats sit in fourth-place after a rain-soaked afternoon on day one of the Lone Star Invitational.
Tournament host UTSA led the field with a card total of 289, followed by Arkansas State (291) in second, third-ranking Little Rock (295), the Bearkats (296) and Texas State (297) in fifth.
The field was able to get a few holes in but a steady rain suspended round one of the invitational just before noon. The action picked up at 2 p.m. where the teams played 18 of the scheduled 36 holes.
In his collegiate debut, Blunt sits in a tie for fifth after shooting a team-low 72 through 18 holes. He picked up his first collegiate eagle on hole 2 and registered a team-high four birdies.
Veterans Camden DeBonis and William Holcomb followed Blunt in the top 20 and are tied for 10th and 16th, respectively. DeBonis tallied a 73 on the scorecard while Holcomb shot 74. The pair shot three birdies apiece.
The Kats racked up a combined 13 birdies on the opening day of the 2018-19 season.
