Men's golf leads by 12

PEARLAND – After the round of play on Monday, the Sam Houston men's golf team has a 12-shot lead at the 14-team Bayou City Collegiate.
The Bearkats, 7-under, are the only team under par for the tournament after shooing rounds of 282 and 287 at Golfcrest Golf Club in Pearland.
Luis Carrera has the lead heading into Tuesday's final round. He's 7-under par, shooting rounds of 67 and 70. The freshman out of Mexico City carded six birdies in each round and leads by one shot. His 12 birdies are tops in the field.
Two other Kats are in striking distance, with William Holcomb sitting in fourth at 3-under and Levi Valadez is one shot back in 7th. Holcomb carded one of the nine eagles on the day with a 3 on the par-5 10th. He also led the field in scoring on the par 5, playing the four holes at 6-under.
Jack Randle and Noah Steele each are 7-over and sit in 53rd place.
