Women's golf takes fifth in Beaumont

BEAUMONT - The Sam Houston State women finished in 5that the Cardinal Challenge hosted by Lamar on Monday and Tuesday.
The Kats shot rounds of 311, 320 and 312, finishing 61 shots off the lead, which was won by Texas State.
Kari Bush had the low round of the day for the Kats with a 76. She finished the tournament in a tie for 20th, climbing 10 spots up the leaderboard on Tuesday.
Jenna Phillips was the top finisher for the Bearkats for the tournament. Her round of 77 on Tuesday moved her up one spot to a 9th place finish. With rounds of 74, 76 and 77, she finished 14-over for the tournament and 13 shots behind the top score of the weekend.
For Phillips, it's her third straight top-1o finish and the 6th of the season.
This was the final tournament of the regular season for Sam Houston. They will start play in two weeks at the Southland Conference Championship at High Meadow Ranch in Magnolia.
