Box Score HUNTSVILLE – The Sam Houston State women's tennis team won both dual matches this week to improve to 3-1 on the season after defeating Texas State 5-2 at the McAdams Tennis Center Sunday afternoon.
Junior
Sahaja Yamalapalli and freshman
Emma Goedkoop continue to impress in singles action and are both 4-0 on the season. Yamalapalli defeated Rishona Israel-Lewis 6-2, 6-1 in No. 1 singles, while Goedkoop took care of Renata Gonzalez 6-0, 6-3 at the No. 6 spot.
Senior Dena Nicolaou (3-1) won her No. 4 singles match against Andrea Fuchs 7-5, 6-1 and senior
Lusine Chobanyan (3-1) defeated Aylssa Zayat 6-2, 6-1 in No. 5 singles.
In No. 2 singles, sophomore
Isidora Zivkovic (2-2) fell to Hana Kvapilova 6-3, 6-3, and in No. 3 singles, junior
Karla De La Luz Montalvo (2-2) lost to Josefina Cassara 2-6, 6-3 (8).
The Bearkats, who defeated UTRGV 7-0 Friday, also claimed the doubles point by winning two of three matches.
Sophomore
Petra Kaszas and Nicolaou dropped Zayat and Cassara 6-4 in No. 2 doubles action, and junior Roos Gerritsan and Goedkoop defeated Sofia Murcia-Rodriguez and Fuchs 7-5 in No. 3 play.
The No. 1 doubles team of Yamalapalli and De La Luz Montalvo lost to Israel-Lewis and Kvapilova 6-4.
Sam Houston State hosts Louisiana Tech at 1 p.m. Friday at the McAdams Tennis Center.
