The Bearkat bowlers placed two on the NTCA All-American team on Monday with Bea Hernandez getting a second-team recognition and Elise Chambers on the honorable mention squad.Â
Â
Hernandez, a sophomore, earns her second All-American award, after she was a second-team pick last year, as well as the national Rookie of the Year. Chambers' selection makes her the 8th All-American bowler in the 10-year history of the program. The Kats have now placed at least one bowler on the All-American squad every year since the start of the program in 2011.Â
Â
"We had an outstanding season this year, maybe one of our best yet, and I think having two All-Americans is proof of that," said head coach Brad Hagen. "Elise and Bea both had a great season and deserve this honor. The fact that they are both just sophomores also shows we are set up to have another incredible season next year."
Â
Also on Monday, the NTCA announced the national statistical leaders for each of the major categories. The Bearkats finished tops in the nation in Baker Double Percentage at 54.45 percent.Â
Â
The sophomore from Manila, Philippines, Hernandez posted an average of 202 this season, earning all-tournament honors at the Mid-Winter Invitational. She earned All-Southland honors this year, landing on the first team. She is the sixth Bearkat bowler to earn multiple All-American recognitionsÂ
Â
She was fourth in the Southland in frame average at 20.383 as well as fourth in frame fill percentage with an 87.2 mark. She was fifth in the league in strike percentage with a 49.6 mark in her 1,307 frames.
Â
Chambers, also a sophomore from Ocoee, Fla., averaged 198 this season. She was on the all-tournament team at the SFA Ladyjack Hammer Classic. Chambers also earned her first All-Southland recognition, landing on the second team.
Â
This season Chambers was ninth in the Southland in frame average at 20.086 and 14th in fill percentage at 84.6 percent. She was seventh in the league in strike percentage converting 49.3 percent of her 1,185 frames into strikes.
