Kats place two on All-Academic team

Leah Alberto and Hanna Alberto were two of five Southland Conference golfers selected to the All-Academic first team, in an announcement made by the league office on Wednesday.

Hanna, a senior from Kingwood, has a cumulative GPA of 3.67 as a Public Health major. This is her third time to be named to the all-academic squad.

Leah, a sophomore from Kingwood, has posted a GPA of 3.87, also majoring in Public Health. Both sisters were named to the SHSU Dean's list in the Fall of 2019.

On the course, Hanna shot a team-best 73.62 scoring average in seven events. Six times she finished in the top 6 in the individual standings, including a season-best second place finish at the Texas State Invitational. She was also invited to participate in the Augusta National Women's Amateur for the second straight year.

Leah competed in six events this season for the Bearkats, twice finishing in the top 4. Her best tournament of the year was a second-place finish at the Islander Classic where she shot a season best round of 70 on the final day. She finished the year with a scoring average of 75.39, an improvement of almost four shots from her freshman season.

The Bearkats were scheduled to compete in two more regular season events as well as defend their Southland Conference title before the year was cut short.
