Golf takes third at Rice Intercollegiate

HOUSTON – The Sam Houston men's golf team hit the links for the first time since March to take part in a one-day 36-hole event at the Rice Intercollegiate. The Kats rebounded from a slow start to take third in the six-team event.

William Holcomb led the way for the Kats posting a 3-under for the two rounds and finished in a tie for fifth place. Paul Chaplet also posted a top-10 finish, shooting 1-over and finishing 9^th.

The Bearkats opened the event shooting a round of 296 (8-over) in the opening round of the day. But they bounced back nicely, shooting a 2-under, 286, only bested by champions Baylor.

Holcomb fired a second-round 69, the best score of the day for the Kats, to climb five spots up the leaderboard. Chaplet was also under par for the second round, shooting a 71 on the par 72 Westwood Golf Club.

Grayson Blunt finished 16^th after shooting a final round 72, one of only three rounds at par or better for the Bearkats.

The Bearkats will be back in action on Feb 14-16 at The All-American at Golf Club of Houston.
