
Kats take fourth at Border Olympics

LAREDO – The Bearkat men's golf team took fourth place in a strong field on Tuesday at the Border Olympics at Laredo Country Club. The Kats posted their highest scoring round of the tournament on Tuesday with a 302, but were able to hold off a hard charging ULM squad to hold fourth place.Â

No. 26 Texas A&M was the only team to shoot under par for the tournament, topping No. 9 Texas and Houston who were second and third in the 18-team field. The Bearkats 4th place finish put them above two ranked teams, No. 13 Baylor and No. 43 Kent State.

Individually, the Bearkats were paced by William Holcomb who was 1-under for the tournament and finished fifth in the 95 player field. He fired two rounds of 71 to start and then shot a 73 on Tuesday. He finished four shots off the lead.

The Bearkats had one other golfer in the top 20, with Paul Chaplet finishing 15th after a 75 on Tuesday. He was 4-over for the tournament.
