In a loaded field that included four ranked teams, the Sam Houston men's golfers took fifth place at the Trinity Forest Invitational on Tuesday.Â
Â
The Kats closed the tournament with their best round, a 290, placing them ahead of No. 37 Louisville by a shot and No. 18 North Texas by six shots. The hosts, No. 13 SMU dominated on their home course, winning by 27 strokes.Â

After opening with two bogies on his first five holes, Holcomb played the rest of the round at 2-under, including a late birdie on No. 17 to give him his third top-10 finish in three events.Â
Â
Ting-Wei Hsieh backed up his 70 on Monday with a 72 Tuesday to finish in 17th. It was his best finish of the season after a 20th place effort at the Rice Intercollegiate.
Â
Paul Chaplet put together a good round on Tuesday, shooting 72 to climb onto the top 20 of the 75 player field. He finished 6-over for the tournament and has now placed in the top 20 in all three of his events as a Bearkat.
