Sewell fires 65, Kats lead at Bentwater

MONTGOMERY, Texas – Chad Sewell fired a second round 65 as the Sam Houston men's golf team took a commanding lead on the second day of play at the Bentwater Intercollegiate.

The Bearkats shot a 3-under round of 281, the only team under par on Tuesday, and will take and 11-shot lead into Wednesday's final round over South Alabama and Midland Community College.

Sewell got his day off to a blistering start, opening with an eagle on No. 1 followed with a pair of birdies. He had four more birdies on the back nine, only dropping a stroke on one hole. His round of 65 is the low round of the year for the Bearkats. He is now 8-under for the tournament and leads by four strokes over teammate Gene Chaikangwal, who is playing as an individual.

Grayson Blunt is also in the top 10 for the Bearkats, shooting a 1-over round of 72 on Tuesday to move to even par overall and tied for 8^th. After a bogey on No. 15, he came right back and got a birdie on 16 before closing out the round with a couple of pars, including an up-and-down on 18.

Ting-Wei Hsieh had a bounce back round on Tuesday with an even par 71 to move to 24^th overall. He close with a pair of birdies over the final seven holes without a bogey.

Freshman Bret Gray shot a 2-over 73 and is now 3-over for the tournament. He sits in a tie for 15^th. Jack Randle shot a 78 and is tied for 53^rd. Josh German, who is playing as an individual shot a 73 and is tied for 15^th and Tristan Renaud is tied for 24 after a 77.

The final round will get started at 8 a.m. with the Bearkats going off at 8:54.
