Bowlers remain perfect in New Orleans

Harahan, La. – Different day, same result. On day 2 of the Colonial Lanes Classic, the Bearkats posted another 5-0 record and stand at 10-0 for the tournament.

Also, for the second straight day, the Kats topped 1,000 pins in all five matches. They will be the No. 1 seed for the best-of-7 matches on Sunday, after beating North Carolina A&T by 316 pins.

"Today was a collective effort and the last three sets despite the wins we really had to be patient with the lanes," said head coach Brad Hagen. "They got swirly and we had to groove them down for a bit then adjust accordingly. We did a great job waiting for the lane to develop and seeing the right shapes again."

Elise Chambers led the Kats with a 222 average and finished the day 5^th in the individual standings. She started the day strong, bowling a 279 in a win over the hosts from Tulane. It was also the biggest game for the Kats, posting a 1,098.

Hayley Connelly also recorded a top 10 finish for the Bearkats, with a 221 average, good for seventh overall. Her biggest game of the day was a 236 in the Kats win over Prairie View A&M.

The Kats got contributions across the board on Saturday. Freshman Sofii Druchyna, who sat for the first two matches of the day, stepped right in and bowled a 222 average including a 248 to the lead Kats in the final match of the day against Tulane.
"Sofiia came up big on the back side and against Tulane and really helped energize the team," Hagen said.

The Kats will face North Carolina A&T on Sunday with a chance to advance to the finals. Tulane and La Tech are the other two teams in the championship bracket.
