After taking a year off from participating in the Hawk Classic, the Bearkats successfully returned to defend their title. The Kats knocked off Vanderbilt and Fairleigh Dickinson on Sunday afternoon to claim their second title of the season.
After a hard fought win in seven games in opening round of the best-of-7 match against Vanderbilt, the Kats cruised to a sweep in the final against FDU.
"We have really been bowling well this season, putting our self in position to win each time out," said head coach Brad Hagen. "Each day we were able to build off our momentum and used what we learned throughout the competition to keep getting better."
In the opening match of the day, the Bearkats jumped up to a 3-1 lead on Vandy, but after dropping games 5 and 6, they were forced to a decisive seventh game. The Kats responded by posting their biggest score of the match, winning 276-242.
In the finals against FDU, the Kats opened the match with a huge 247-169 win and never looked back. They won all four games by scoring over 200 each time.
Sam Houston placed three bowlers on the all-tournament team and Elise Chambers was named Tournament MVP. She joined Hayley Connelly on the All-tournament first team, while Bea Hernandez was a second team selection.
They finished the tournament with a 10-2 record. The Kats wrap up the fall portion of their schedule with a 33-5 record and they have finished in the top 3 in every event this season.
