Alberto ranked No. 1 in GolfStat rankings.

For the first time in school history, the Bearkats have a national top ranked golfer. In the latest GolfStat rankings, Hanna Alberto is the No. 1 ranked NCAA golfer in the country.

Alberto won the first event of the year, taking the title at the Texas State Invitational. The win was a school record 8^thindividual title for Alberto.

"This is big-time for Hanna and our program," said head coach Brandt Kieschnick. "She has been a consistent winner for us since stepping on campus and it is great for her to be recognized nationally like this."

At the Texas State Invitational, Alberto was the only golfer to shoot three rounds in the 60's, firing rounds of 67, 66 and 68 to win the event by three strokes.

The team also checked into the GolfStat rankings at No. 49. The Kats finished third in the event.

For Alberto, the No. 1 ranking is just another in a long list of accomplishments since arriving at Sam Houston. In addition to her eight titles, she has twice been named Southland Conference Golfer of the Year and was the Student Athlete of the Year in 2018.

In April she will play in the Augusta National Women's Amateur at Augusta National in Georgia for the second time. The ANWA is a tournament for the top amateurs in the world.
