Bearkats open lead at SLC Championship

EL DORADO, Ark. – The Bearkats opened up their lead at the Southland Conference women's golf championship and will take a 13-shot lead into Wednesday's final round.

In the process, Jennifer Herbst widened her lead in the individual standings. She followed Monday's round of 71 with a 70 on Tuesday. She is 3-under for the tournament and leads second place Hanna Alberto by 8 shots.

She got off to a hot start with three birdies in her first seven holes to go 3-under for the round. She had five total birdies on the day and nine for the tournament which is tied for most in the 39-player field.

As a team, the Bearkats improved their first-round score by seven strokes and are 9-over for the tournament. They were the only team in the field to shoot and better score on Tuesday than Monday.

Alberto rebounded from her opening round of 77 on Tuesday with an even-par 72. She carded back-to-back birdies on Nos. 9 and 10 to get to 2-under for the round. She then birdied No. 17 to get back to even for the day.

Viera Permata Rosada also improved on her Round 1 score, shooting a 76, five shots better than Monday. Leah Alberto and Zulaikah Nasser each shot rounds of 79 on Tuesday.

The final round will gets started Wednesday morning as the Bearkats will attempt to win their second straight Southland Conference title.
