Women's golf leads big in Beaumont

BEAUMONT – With two rounds in the books at the Cardinal Challenge, the Sam Houston women's golf team has stormed out to a 21 shot lead with one round remaining.

The Bearkats have six gofers in the top seven of the leaderboard, including Viera Permata Rosada who leads while playing as an individual, who is one if two golfers at 1-under.

The Kats are sitting at 12-over for the tournament, while second place Southern Mississippi is 33-over. Sam Houston held a 6-shot lead after the first round, but opened things up in round 2, firing an even-par 288. It's their fourth team round of par or better this season.

Jennifer Herbst is even through the first two rounds and sits in third place after shooting consecutive rounds of 72. Zulaikah Nasser is three-over and sits in fourth place while Hanna Alberto is a shot back in fifth.

Anna Takahashi and Leah Alberto, who have each already won tournaments this season for the Kats, are tied for 7^th at 6-over.

The final round is Tuesday at Beaumont Country Club.
