NACOGDOCHES – The Sam Houston women's basketball team could not keep up with the Stephen F. Austin Ladyjacks in the second half, falling 79-46 at William R. Johnson Coliseum.
The Bearkats (5-9, 0-3 WAC) were within single digits at the half, but SFA (13-3, 4-0 WAC) outscored Sam Houston 43-18 in the final 20 minutes to stay unbeaten in league play.
Damaya Telemaque was the lone Kat to reach double figures, scoring 11 points with four rebounds in just 20 minutes of work.
Kaylee Jefferson added eight points and both
Faith Cook and
Courtney Cleveland had seven apiece.
The Kats did finish 15-for-20 at the foul line, but were just 1-for-9 from 3-point range and shot just 30 percent from the floor against one of the top defensive teams in the WAC.
For SFA, Aiyana Johnson led three players in double figures with 17 points on a perfect 7-for-7 shooting from the field. Zya Nugent added 13, while Stephanie Visscher had 11 points and four steals.
The Kats will look to rebound on Monday with a rescheduled game vs Tarleton set for 2:00 p.m.
