Bearkats place 2nd at Kansas tournament

LAWRENCE, Kansas — The Sam Houston women's golf team finished second at the Marilynn Smith Sunflower Invitational hosted by Kansas on Tuesday.

The Bearkats turned in a 29-over par 749 during the 45-hole tournament which had the third round cut to nine holes due to weather at the Lawrence Country Club. No. 11 Kent State claimed the championship with a 21-over 741 and No. 15 Arizona was third with a 761. Sam Houston also finished ahead of seven other Power 5 programs including Kansas (761), Wisconsin (765), Minnesota (769), Nebraska (776), Washington State (792), Boston College (792) and Iowa (805) in the 15 team field.

Jenn David tied for third with a 4-over 184 with rounds of 1-under 71, 2-over 74 and 39. Jennifer Herbst tied for ninth at 187 with rounds of 6-over 78, 2-over 74 and 35.

Viera Permata Rosada tied for 12th with a score of 188 with rounds of 5-over 77, 1-under 71 and 40. Leah Alberto and Zulaikah Nasser tied for 33rd at 195. Alberto turned in rounds of 2-over 74, 9-over 81 and 40, while Nasser shot 7-over 79, 5-over 77 and 39.
