Kats compete at Jim Pyburn Memorial

BEAUMONT – The Sam Houston women's tennis team moved forward with its fall season over the weekend, competing at the Joe Pyburn Memorial Tournament, hosted by Lamar.

It was the third event of the fall for the Bearkats and the final tournament away from home with Aramark/Bearkat Invitational scheduled for October 28-30 in Huntsville.

Newcomer Paula Cerda was a bright spot for Sam Houston in the event, advancing in the Flight A singles with a straight-set win over Anais Brion from A&M-Corpus Christi before dropping matches to opponents from Lamar and Stephen F. Austin.

Sahithi Vutukuru also picked up a win in Flight A with a win on the consolation side of the bracket over SFA's Zala Ule.
