HUNTSVILLE — The Sam Houston women's basketball team rallied in the second half to come away with a 61-58 victory over Chicago State at Johnson Coliseum on Saturday.
Faith Cook led the Bearkats with 16 points as they pushed their winning streak to six games to improve to 6-6 in WAC play and 11-12 overall.
Damaya Telemaque added 11 points, and
Courtney Cleveland and
Madelyn Batista, who had 11 rebounds, each chipped in nine.
Sam Houston trailed by five at the half but came back to take the lead in the second half thanks to an 11-4 run to begin the third quarter.
LeAndra Echi got the run started with layup and Telemaque capped with basket to make it 41-39 with 3:50 left in the period.
The Cougars came back to take the lead by two with less than three minutes to go in the game, but the Kats answered with back-to-back layups by Telemaque and Cleveland to put Sam Houston up for good.
The Bearkats return to action Monday when they travel to Beaumont to take on Lamar at 7 p.m.
