HUNTSVILLE — Wichita State used a four-run fifth inning to pull away from the Sam Houston softball team 16-9 in the finale of the Bearkat Classic at the Bearkat Softball Complex on Sunday.
The Bearkats (1-3) took the lead at 3-2 in the first inning.
Brodie Quinlan doubled to begin the frame and later scored on a fielding error.
Hannah Scheaffer hit a two-run single to erase the 2-0 deficit.
The Shockers (4-1) scored four runs in the second and Sam Houston once again answered.
Another double by Quinlan and a single by Fisher setup a two-run double by
Kylie Hobbs.
Brailey Wasik followed with a double to center to get the Kats within 7-6.
Wichita State added three runs in the third and four in the fourth to take a 13-6 lead. The Shockers tacked on two more runs in the sixth.
Hobbs hit a two-run single in the bottom of the six and
Kyndal Kutac scored on a wild pitch but a rally fell short.
The Bearkats host Texas A&M on Wednesday at Bearkat Softball Complex.
