Kats sit in 5th at Texas State

KYLE - The Sam Houston women's golf team started it's spring season on Monday with a strong showing at the Texas State Invitational.

The Bearkats stand in fifth place after 36 holes, shooting a 608, +32 for the day. They trail leaders BYU by 16 shots. Tulsa is in second at +17, followed by UIW (+26) and Texas A&M Corpus Christi (+27).

Jennifer Herbst led the way for the Kats shooting a pair of 75 rounds and sits at +6 for the tournament. She is in a tie for 14^th place overall.

Two other Kats joined Herbst in the top 20 individually, with both Zulaikah Nasser and Leah Alberto shooting 152 on Monday. They each had rounds of 73 and 79, with Nasser firing the 73 in round 2 and Alberto shooting her 73 in round 1 which was the low round of the day for the Bearkats.

Cari Denson is 45^th overall after shooting 159 and Anna Takahashi is a shot back in 47^th.

The final round will start at 8:30 Tuesday morning.
