Golf takes second at Walden

MONTGOMERY – In their final tune-up before the WAC Championships, the men's golf team took second place at the Bayou City Collegiate Classic.Â

The Kats entered the day tied for the lead, but Florida Atlantic shot the low round of the day (289) to win the tournament by 5 shots.Â

The Kats closed the 16-team tournament with a 6-over 294 at Walden on Lake Conroe.Â

The Kats were paced by a pair of freshman golfers in the top 10, with Josh German leading the way. He shot an even-par round of 72 on Tuesday and finished even for the tournament to take 4th place, his highest finish of the season. He made the turn at 2-under and was able to scratch out a 72 as the wind began to kick up in the afternoon.Â

Bret Gray followed up his win at The All-American with a 10th place finish at Walden. He shot a 74 on Tuesday and finished 4-over for the tournament.

Ting Wei-Hsieh closed with a 20th place finish shooting a 76 in the final round. It's the fifth time the sophomore has finished in the top 20 this season.

Chad Sewell and Grayson Blunt each shot 74 on Tuesday and finished 10-over for the tournament and tied for 34th.

The Bearkats also had three golfers playing as individuals with Gene Chaikangwal and Jack Randle each finishing in a tie for 11th at five over for the tournament. They both shot 73 on Tuesday. Nathan Weber shot a 78 on Tuesday and finished 37th at 11-over for the tournament.Â
