Kats take 2nd, Gray 3rd at WAC Championship

BOULDER CITY, Nev. – The Sam Houston men took runner up honors at the WAC Championship on Sunday while freshman Bret Gray finished third.

Gray shot par or better in all three rounds, closing the tournament with a 70 on Sunday. He closed his round strong, with back-to-back birdies on Nos. 15 and 16.

The Bearkats as a team entered the final round with a five-shot lead over Abilene Christian, but the Wildcats made up the gap and held off Sam Houston late to beat the Kats by one shot.

Senior Chad Sewell had his best round of the tournament, shooting a 70. He finished 1-under for the tournament and tied for 8^th. Freshman Gene Chaikangwal also recorded a top 10 finish, closing out at even par for the championship, tied for 10^th overall.

Josh German shot a 76 on Sunday and finished 24^th while Jack Randle had a 77 and finished 36^th.
