HOUSTON — The Sam Houston softball team got a much-needed 5-1 victory over Houston Baptist on Wednesday afternoon at Husky Field.
The Bearkats snapped an eight-game losing streak with the win. Sam Houston now stands 11-31 on the season heading into a two-game series at Baylor on Friday and Saturday.
Kylie Hobbs got the Kats on the board first in the opening inning.
Sheridan Fisher led off with a single and moved to into scoring position on a hit by
Elia Hebel.
Hobbs then ripped an RBI double to right center field, but HBU (12-20) was able to answer with a solo home run in the bottom of the first.
The tie game would be short lived.
Regan Dunn led off the second with a bunt single and came around to score on an RBI triple by
Emily Telg down the right field line. Fisher made it 3-1 with a sacrifice fly to left to plate Telg.
Brailey Wasik helped her own cause in the circle in the seventh.
Kyndal Kutac laced a double down the left field line then Wasik blasted a two-run home run to left.
Wasik (4-2) earned the victory by holding the Huskies to just one run with five strikeouts in 4 1/3 innings. Dunn came on in relief in the fifth and held HBU hit less over 2 2/3 innings of work.
