Kats earn sixth seed at WAC tourney

DENVER – The bracket for the 2022 WAC Women's Tennis tournament is set, with Sam Houston earning the No. 6 seed for the eight-team event.

The tournament begins on Friday in Beaumont at the Beaumont Municipal Tennis Center. The tournament concludes on Sunday with the championship match set to begin at 1 p.m. The winner of the tournament earns the league's automatic berth into the NCAA Tournament.

Grand Canyon earned the No. 1 seed with a 5-0 WAC record, while winning the conference's Western Division, and will play No. 8 seed Abilene Christian. Serving as the No. 2 seed will be NM State. The Aggies only league loss in five matches came against the Lopes on the season's final day. They will play No. 7 seed Chicago State. Both of those quarterfinal matches will start at 12 p.m. on Friday

The No. 3 seed Stephen F. Austin Ladyjacks and Bearkats begin the 3 p.m. window for the quarterfinal matches on Friday. The final quarterfinal match pits No. 4 UT Rio Grande Valley against No. 5 Seattle U.
