Sewell shoots 74 on Day 2 at NCAA Regional

BRYAN – On the second day of play at the NCAA men's golf Regional, Sam Houston senior Chad Sewell shot a 74 and stands in 26^th place.

Sewell, who opened the tournament with a 71 on Monday, is 1-over for the championship with one round remaining. He's fighting for one available spot to the NCAA Championship.

Sewell dug himself into a hole early after a bogey to start and then a double bogey on No. 2. After birdies on Nos. 6 and 8, he made the turn at two over for the round. He got back to under par for the championship with back-to-back birdies on Nos. 10 and 11.

A string of three bogeys over the next four holes set him back. He picked up his fifth birdie on the day at No. 17 and then closed out the round with a par on 18.

The top five teams will advance to the NCAA Championship along with the top individual not on an advancing team.

Three golfers are tied atop the leaderboard at 6-under, while Noah Goodwin is the top individual not on a top 5 team. He shot 68 on Tuesday and is 5-under.

The final round of the Regional will be played Wednesday morning.
