BEAUMONT — The Sam Houston tennis got off to a quick start by taking the doubles point, but Lamar was able to squeak out a 4-3 victory at the Beaumont Municipal Tennis Center on Saturday.
Megan Basson and
Paula Cerda got the day started on the right foot for the Bearkats (2-1) when they defeated Femke Tjon-A-Joe and Noelia Lorca 6-2 at No. 1 doubles.
Anastasia Khokhlova and
Aaliyah Hohmann kept the momentum going with a 6-4 win over Margarita Nikonorova and Megan Do at No. 3.
Sahithi Vutukuru and
Vianne Schwab sealed the doubles points with a 6-4 victory over Jayci Wong and Ana Jolic and No. 2.
Basson put the Kats up 2-0 with a 6-1, 6-4 win over Tjon-A-Joe at No. 1 singles. Cerda tied the match at 3-3 when she earned a 6-3, 3-6, 6-4 victory over Locra at No. 2, but the Cardinals (2-1) won at No. 5 to pick up the win.
Sam Houston returns to the McAdams Tennis Center to host Texas State on Friday at 1 p.m. Admission is free.
