HUNTSVILLE - Playing in a unique round-robin format in both singles and doubles, the women's tennis team continued to show improvement in their third tournament of the 2023 fall schedule as Sam Houston hosted the eighth annual Bearkat Invitational event Friday through Sunday at the McAdams Tennis Center on campus. 

"Overall we were more competitive this weekend than we have been in our first two tournaments," Sam Houston head coach Rob Hubbard said. "We have one more event left on the schedule this and we still have some things we need to get done. But we took a step forward the past three days." 

Sam Houston hosted three former Southland Conference foes (UTSA, Lamar and Northwestern State) in a tournament in which each of the four squads faced off in sperate action for each of the six singles and three doubles flights . Bearkat players picked up victories in each of the flights.  

"Our doubles play was stronger," Hubbard said. "Definitely we are in a better place with what we brought to the table. We're looking forward to another opportunity to get better in our final fall outing in Lafayette in November."

The Bearkat tennis team will play in the Ragin' Cajun Invitational at the University of Louisiana, November 3-5.
