HUNTSVILLE - Sam Houston got back in the win column at home on Friday as they beat Schreiner University, 96-43.
In the first-ever meeting between the two teams, Coach Ravon Justice's squad took control of the game early and never looked back.
The Bearkats shot 50 percent from the floor, forced 35 Mountaineer turnovers and out-rebounded Scheiner by 20 rebounds. The win puts the Kats (2-1) back on track after the loss earlier in the week at Houston.
Leading the way for the Kats was Kaylee Jefferson and Raanee Smith, who both posted new career highs in points with 22 and 18 points respectively. Smith also led the Kats in rebounds, posting her second double-double of the season.
The Bearkats also had key contributions from Diana Rosenthal and Shanti Henry. Rosenthal led the Bearkats defense with five steals to go with her 11 points. Henry dished out eight assists to go with her 5 points for the game.
Sam Houston will travel to San Marcos to take on Texas State on November 21st. Tipoff is set for 6:30 pm.
