
Kats go low at Kapolei Invitational

KAPOLEI, O'ahu, Hawaii – The Sam Houston men's golf team shot 24 under par over the course of three rounds, finishing 12th out of 19 teams this week at the Kapolei Invitational. Â
The field, featuring five nationally-ranked teams at the Kapolei Golf Course, saw 15 teams finish at least 20 below par, paced by No. 46 Loyola Marymount's 56-under mark. Â
Sam Houston closed out the week with its strongest round, firing an 11-under 840 as a team in Round 3. Bret Gray led the Kats, finishing eight under par after going 69-69-70 to finish in 25th place. Both Hugo Trommetter and Gene Chaikangwal finished in the 60s with Chaikangwal birdying four of his final eight holes of the day to shoot a 69. Trommetter a 68, buoyed by an eagle on No. 7 and a bogey-free front nine. Â
Chaikangwal finished the week shooting 72-69-69 in a tie for 44th, while Trommetter's 71-72-68 landed him in a tie for 48th. Â
Josh German also put up a 72-71-70 week to come in 62nd an Ting-Wei Hsieh fired a 74-70-74 week to come in a tie for 88th. Â
The Kats will go on respite for the remainder of the fall and winter before gearing back up in February when it hosts the Bentwater Intercollegiate in Montgomery, February 12-13. Â
