HUNTSVILLE — Sam Houston let a fourth quarter lead slip away in a 63-56 loss to UTSA at Johnson Coliseum on Saturday.
The Bearkats (3-2) held an 11-point lead to start the final period when the Roadrunners began to chip away at the lead. A basket got UTSA within 45-41 with just under seven minutes left in the game before a pair of free throws by Diana Rosethal put the Kats up five.
The Roadrunners followed with an 8-0 run to tie it and took the lead for good on an old fashion three-point play. Sam Houston battled until the end, getting as close as 57-54 in the final minutes but could not string anything together down the stretch.
The Bearkats struggled offensively despite leading for most of the game. Sam Houston shot 25 percent from the floor, making only 17 of 69 shot attempts.
Sydnee Kemp led the Kats with 14 points, and
Raanee Smith added 13 points and seven rebounds. Rosenthal finished with nine points, while
Diarrah Sissoko scored six.
Sam Houston is back in action at home to host Florida A&M on Friday at 11 a.m.
