LAFAYETTE, La. – True freshmen India Fenieys and Roberta Sechi combined for four singles victories to highlight action for the Bearkats as the Sam Houston women's tennis team wrapped up its 2023 fall intercollegiate tournament schedule at the Rajin' Cajun Classic this weekend on the campus of the University of Louisiana.
 
Fenieys defeated Angelina Blinova from Southern Mississippi 7-6(5), 6-2 and Maria Wang Martinez from McNeese 5-7, 6-1, 10-3. Sechi posted victories over Abigail Thurmer of Arkansas State 6-4 6-4 and Tamara Bachmann of ULM 6-2 6-0.  
 
Fenieys also paired with sophomore Vianne Schwab to pick up a victory in doubles. The two teamed to defeat Sarah Millard and Abigail Thurmer of Arkansas State 6-2. 
 
The Bearkats joined Arkansas State, McNeese, Southern Mississippi, Tulane, ULM and host Louisiana in the flighted singles and doubles event. Sam Houston's other three tournament appearances this fall included the Lamar Invitational in Beaumont, the Intercollegiate Tennis Association (ITA) Regionals hosted by Baylor in Waco and Sam Houston's Bearkat Invitational in Huntsville. 
  
Fenieys paired with sophomore Vianne Schwab team to earn a doubles victory defeating Sarah Millard and Abigail Thurmer of Arkansas State 6-2. Sophomore Linn Svaerd added a singles victory over Emiliya Margoli of Arkansas State 6-1 7-5. 
 
Sam Houston will begin the 2024 intercollegiate dual match schedule in March, its first season of action in Conference USA.
