Kats victorious in WAC opener

The Bearkats (7-8 overall, 1-0 WAC) fell behind 1-0 in the second but came back to tie it in the bottom of the third. Tyler Davis singled and moved to third on a double by Easton Loyd to set up a sacrifice fly by Myles Jefferson.
Sam Houston blew the game open in the fourth.
Carlos Contreras and Walker Justin Wishkoski got the offense going with back-to-back one-out singles and came around to score on a two-run double by Clayton Chadwick. Davis reached on a fielding error that led to a sacrifice fly by Loyd to make it 4-1.
Jefferson brought home Davis on a double down the left side, and Joe Redfield capped the inning with an RBI single to right field to push the lead to 6-1.
Sam Houston added an insurance run in the fifth when Walker Janek and Contreras singled and Wishkoski hit a sacrifice fly to right field.
That was plenty of run supports for starting pitcher Coltin Atkinson. He improved to 2-0 on the season by allowing two earned runs over 7 1/3 innings to go along with eight strikeouts.
