HUNTSVILLE — Sam Houston blanked Utah Valley 4-0 in the second game of a doubleheader Friday to clinch a Western Athletic Conference series.
The Bearkats got rolling early in game two when
Emily Telg drove in a run with an RBI single up the middle in the second inning.
Sam Houston tacked on two more in the third.
Brailey Wasik walked, and
Jordan Peno doubled off the wall in right field to setup a two-run double by
Hannah Scheaffer down the third left field line.
Wasik made it 4-0 with a solo home run off the flagpole in right center field to give starter
Regan Dunn another insurance run. Dunn (3-4) went the distance in the circle to earn the win, tossing seven shutout innings.

Sam Houston blasted three home runs to make quick work of Utah Valley in a 13-3 run-rule victory in game one of a WAC doubleheader on Friday at Bearkat Softball Complex.
Brailey Wasik got the Kats on the board in the bottom of the first inning when she sailed a solo shot over the wall in left center field. Sam Houston was just getting started at that point.
The Bearkats plated six runs in the second inning when
Tricia Yarotsky led off with a triple, and
Emily Telg and
Ellie Grill drew back-to-back walks to set up a bases-clearing double by
Brodie Quinlan. Wasik followed with an RBI double, and
Jordan Peno ripped a two-run blast to right field to make it 7-1.
Haleigh Carter drove in a run with a single in the third, and Grill made it 9-2 with a groundout.
The Wolverines tried to mount a rally in the fourth with a pair of runs, but Sam Houston got another big inning in the bottom of the frame.
Wasik hit her second double of the game to begin the inning and scored when
Julia Herzinger sent the third home run of the game out of left center field. The final two runs came on an error.
Emma Guindon got the win in the circle. She gave up one earned run in five innings to improve to 4-4 on the season.
