Kats top leaderboard at WAC Championships

BLAINE, Wash. — The Sam Houston women's golf team sits atop the leaderboard at the 2023 WAC Championship following the opening round on Sunday at Semiahmoo Country Club.

The Bearkats shot 5-over 293 to take a three-stroke lead over California Baptist and Seattle U which both turned in 296. Grand Canyon (299) is fourth followed by New Mexico State (301), Utah Tech (306), Southern Utah and Utah Valley (307), UTRGV (313), Tarleton (317), UTA (318) and Stephen F. Austin (326).

Leah Alberto is currently in second place in the individual standings after shooting a 1-under 71. Jennifer Herbst is tied for third at even par, Viera Permata Rosada and Zulaikah Nasser are tied for 12th at 3-over 75 and Jenn David is tied for 22nd at 4-over 76.

Sam Houston will be paired with the Lancers and Redhawks in the second round on Monday with the final round to take place on Tuesday.
