Gray tabbed WAC Player of the Year

ARLINGTON — Fresh off a third-place finish at the Western Athletic Conference Championships, Sam Houston sophomore Bret Gray has been named the league's men's golf Player of the Year.

Gray was also a first-team All-WAC selection along with Jack Randle. Josh German, Kristoffer Max and Sam McKenzie were all named to the second team.

Gray posted two wins and six top five finishes this season. He won the Blackjack Shootout on Montgomery and claimed the individual championship at the Bayou City Classic in Houston.

Gray finished second at the Bearkat Invitational in Montgomery and third at both the White Sands Invitational in the Bahamas and at the All American Collegiate in Humble. His average score per round this season was 70.72 which included 16 total rounds over the course of i13 tournaments.

Randle posted four top-10 finishes for the Bearkats with a 72.50 average per round. He placed first at the Whispering Pines Shootout in Trinity.

German had two top-10 finishes by averaging 72.94 per round including a third-place showing at the Bearkat Invitational. Max averaged 72.85 per round and had three top-10 finishes including a tie for first at the Whispering Pines Shootout.

McKenzie posted three top-10 finishes thanks to an average round score of 72.63. He placed in a tie for sixth place at the Whispering Pines Shootout and Bayou City Classic.
