Kieschnick signs May for 2024-25

HUNTSVILLE - Sam Houston head golf coach Brandt Kieschnick added another top recruit to a talented 2024 class on Wednesday, announcing the signing of Sebastian May.
May will be joining the Bearkats in Fall 2024 and hails from Christchurch, New Zealand where claimed the 2023 New Zealand Amateur title in early November when he beat Auckland's Steven Van Heerden 6&5 in the 36-hole final. He shot 2-69 in the stroke-play portion of the tournament to qualify for match play.Â
He also tied for fifth at the 2023 South Island Men's U19 Championship, firing 71-75-73 and was a member of the Canterbury Golf Talent Development Team in both 2022 and 2023.
Kieschnick on May: "I watched Seb this summer at the IMG Junior World in San Diego. He hits it long with accuracy and has good size. After watching him play, we developed a relationship and he really appreciated the principles of our program and culture. Seb has intangibles you can't teach like athleticism, competitiveness and raw talent which produces great golf shots. I believe his continued development will lead to something special. What I saw this summer proved true a few months later when he won the New Zealand Amateur at the age of 17."
