HUNTSVILLE – Sam Houston could not close the gap in 87-55 Conference USA loss against Middle Tennessee on Saturday at Johnson Coliseum.
The Bearkats (5-10, 0-3 CUSA) held their own in the first quarter coming as close as three points with the Lady Raiders (12-4, 2-0) leading 14-11.
Kaylee Jefferson put up five points for the Bearkats in the first quarter including a game opening 3.
Sam Houston could not get things going offensively as the Lady Raiders took 40-24 advantage to close the half. Middle Tennessee's Courtney Whitson became the all-time leader in 3-point field goals in Lady Raider history with four in the win.
Jefferson led the Bearkats with 18 points, and
Sydnee Kemp put up 13.
Kassidy Dixon grabbed five rebounds to lead Sam Houston on the boards.
The Bearkats do not have a midweek game next week but will be back in action to host Liberty on Jan. 20 at Johnson Coliseum. The game will be streamed online live on ESPN+ at 2 p.m.
