SAN MARCOS – The Sam Houston softball team split a doubleheader with Northern Colorado at the Texas State Tournament at Bobcat Field on Saturday.
The Bearkats (1-5) were shut out in the first game 5-0. Sam Houston bounced back and picked up its first win of the season with a 4-3 victory over the Bears in the nightcap.
Northern Colorado 5, Sam Houston 0 (7 inn.)
Sam Houston could not scratch across any runs in 5-0 loss to Northern Colorado.

Abigail Young pitched four innings, allowing six hits and four runs.

Jenny Robison each hit safely for Sam Houston.

Sam Houston grabbed their first win of the 2024 season in 4-3 victory over Northern Colorado on Saturday night.
Kats started off strong with an
Elia Hebel RBI single that brought home
Haleigh Carter.
Morgan Holliday followed with an RBI single to bring home
Brodie Quinlan to give a two-run lead in the second inning.
Holliday started off the fourth inning with a single right up the middle. After a couple errors by the Bears, Carter came up to the plate and singled to bring in Holliday.
Northern Colorado scored in the bottom of the sixth on a Bearkat error to bring the score 4-3. The Kats, however, fought off Northern Colorado and grabbed their first win.
The Kats will finish the tournament Sunday against Tulsa at noon.
