KYLE – Jenn Herbst won her head-to-head match, but the Sam Houston women's golf team dropped a 4-2 match-play decision to Texas State on Friday at Plum Creek Golf Course. Â
The Bearkats and Bobcats faced off in what will be SHSU's only scheduled match-play meeting of the year, and Herbst was the one to get on the board. Texas State's Yvonne Chamness led 2UP through 14 holes, but Herbst responded with a birdie at the Par-5 15th to cut it to 1UP and tied it one hole later with a par at the 16th.Â
Herbst played clean the rest of the way in, taking the match with a par on 18 to tally the Kats' first point of the day.Â
Grace Jinn earned another point for the Kats, leading by as much as four holes at one point on the back nine before holding on for a 1UP win over Carla Bourdeaux.Â
Jenn David also made up a late deficit by winning the 18th hole to knot a tie with the Bobcats' Mattingly Palmer, while Cari Denson also drew even in her match.
Sam Houston will next head to Peoria, Ariz., for the Westbrook Invitational in a tournament hosted by Wisconsin. Play will begin, Monday, February 26 at Westbrook Golf Course.
