Kats in eighth at Mid Winter Classic

JONESBORO, Ark. — The Sam Houston bowling team remained in eighth place following day two at the Mid Winter Classic at the Jonesboro Bowling Center on Saturday.

The Bearkats went 4-1 and stand 7-3 for the tournament with to finish with 9,920 total pins. Host Arkansas State took over the first-place spot (10,570) followed by Vanderbilt (10,460), Youngstown State (10,291), Maryville (10,254), Nebraska (10,239), and Louisiana Tech (10,053).

"Today was a nice steppingstone forward for us," head coach Brad Hagen said. "After a tough-fought loss in game one, we were able to bounce back to beat Nebraska in the second set then run off the rest. This time of the year the numbers get tight and who you beat, when and where is important. Our record against the top five has been very competitive and this team is learning we can keep up if our mindset is where it belongs.Â

"We did a lot better today overall paying attention to the transition details and each individual shot, and anytime we can do that intently, it typically works out well for us."

Kaia Gray led the team average for the Bearkats with 228 for the five games which is a career best. She finished with 1,141 pins to finish sixth in the individual competition.
