HUNTSVILLE – Freshman Robi Sechi and sophomore Linn Svaerd picked up the points for Sam Houston in a 5-2 loss to former Southland Conference women's tennis rival McNeese on Sunday afternoon at the McAdams Tennis Facility.

Sechi defeated Tiana Fox 6-0, 6-3 in the number five singles. Svaerd topped Ariane Monlleo-Sanchis 6-4 7-5 at the six spot.

Senior Sahiti Vutukuru and freshman India Fenieys paired to provide the Kats with a 6-4 victory in the number two doubles position. The Cowgirls rallied to earn the doubles point with come-from-behind wins at one and three doubles.

McNeese upped its season record to 9-1 with the victory. Sam Houston is 3-3 for the young season. With the sun shining on a Kat tennis match for the first time after four weather cancelations, the Sam Houston women were seeing their first action in nearly two weeks.

"We had our opportunities today," Kats' head coach Rob Hubbard said. "We played well in doubles but couldn't close it out. We had our chances in singles as well against a strong McNeese line-up. We need to work on cashing in on our opportunities."
