Kats off to Louisiana for trio of matches

HUNTSVILLE - After a weekend full of weather problems, Sam Houston women's tennis looks to get back into action with a weekend three-day trip to Louisiana beginning Friday.

During the Bearkats' first road trip of the 2024 dual-match season, Sam Houston was forced to move its match vs. Texas State from Friday to Saturday due to rain in San Marcos. Then, on Sunday, the match with UTSA was postponed due to high winds in the San Antonio area.

"It was my first 'wind out' as a coach," Kat head coach Rob Hubbard said. "We had 25 to 30 miles per hour winds that were blowing down the wind screens on the fences."

While officials from both SHSU and UTSA are close to finding a mutually-beneficial date to reschedule, the Kats will now turn their attention to three matches set for the upcoming weekend.

The Bearkats travel to Natchitoches, La. to face Northwestern State and South Alabama on Friday and Saturday. On Sunday the team travels north to battle LSU Shreveport.

"What we want most right now is just to compete," Hubbard said. "We're excited about this team. We want to get on the court and start playing."

The Sam Houston women opened the 2024 dual match schedule with two victories over Prairie View A&M and one versus UT Tyler. The Kats lost to Texas State Saturday in San Marcos.

"We're facing three opponents who are going to test us," Hubbard said. "We're ready to get back to work."

Sam Houston's next home appearances at the McAdams Courts will see the Kats play host to McNeese on February 18 and Lamar on February 23.
