Kats lead, Gray in second at All-American Intercollegiate

HUMBLE – Bret Gray sits in second place individually and the Sam Houston men's golf team has the lead after the first day of the All-American Intercollegiate at the Golf Club of Houston.Â
The 20-team field completed 36 holes of play on Monday and will have 18 more to go on Tuesday with the Bearkats setting the pace with a two-round total of 580 (+4). Gray led the way with rounds of 69 and 72, finishing the day at –3 and just one shot off the lead held by UNLV's Yuki Moriyama. Â
Ting-Wei Hsieh is just two shots behind Gray with a day weighted by an opening-round of 68, the low score of the field in the first round. That mark helped the Kats to a score of 285 in Round 1, giving the Kats an eight-shot advantage. The Kats followed that with a round of 295 to close the day and set them up for the final day with a four-shot lead over UNLV.Â
Josh German went 74-73 in his two rounds to tie for 22nd while Hugo Trommetter went 74-75 to tie for 34th. Gene Chaikangwal rounded out the Sam Houston scoring with a day of 79-75.Â
Play for the final round is set for 8:00 a.m. on Tuesday and can be followed on Golf Stat.
