BEAUMONT– The Sam Houston softball team could not scratch across the tying run in the seventh inning to fall to Lamar 3-2 on Tuesday at LU Softball Complex.
Jordan Peno put the Kats on the board with aggressive base running to cut the Cardinals' lead to 2-1. Ellie Grill would tie the game with an RBI single in the fifth, but Lamar was able to push across the go ahead run in the sixth to escape with the home win.
Tricia Yarotsky led Sam Houston at the plate with a pair of hits along with Grill and Peno.
The Bearkats will return to Conference USA action when they host Liberty for a weekend series, beginning Friday at Bearkat Softball Complex.
