HUNTSVILLE – The Sam Houston women's tennis team plays host to Louisiana Tech in a Conference USA dual match Saturday afternoon at 1 p.m. at the McAdams Tennis Center.
The Techsters bring a 10-6 dual match season mark and a 2-1 CUSA won-lost record into the fray. Sam Houston stands 7-8 in spring match play, splitting in its first two league battles. The Kats opened CUSA action with a come-from-behind 4-3 victory over UTEP in Huntsville March 13. Liberty defeated Sam Houston on the road March 22.
Louisiana Tech's two CUSA wins were over UTEP and New Mexico and their loss was to Jacksonville State.
Senior Paula Cerda, freshman India Fenleys and sophomore Linn Svaerd sport the Kats' top singles records this spring. Cerda is 10-4 in dual match action at the number one and two positions combined. Fenleys has a 7-5 mark playing in the one, three and four spots. Svaerd sports seven wins with a 3-0 mark at five and 4-0 at six.
Megan Basson, Aaliyah Holhman, Vianne Schwab, Robi Sechi and Sahithi Vutukuru have all seen action in the number three through six positions.
Saturday's contest marks the 25th meeting of the two universities in women's tennis action. Sam Houston holds a 13-11 edge in the series. The Techsters edged the Kats 4-3 in the pair's last meeting in 2022.
The contest Saturday marks the beginning of a three-match home stand that will close out Sam Houston's 2024 schedule at the McAdams Center. The Kats host New Mexico State on April 4 and Jacksonville State three days later on April 7.
