HUNTSVILLE – Louisiana Tech won the doubles point and the Nos. 1, 3 and 5 singles to extend its current winning streak to 15 matches with a 4-0 victory over Sam Houston in a Conference USA women's tennis match Friday at the McAdams Center.
The victory lifted the Bulldogs' season record to 11-6. Louisiana Tech stands 3-1 in CUSA action. The Bearkats now are 7-9 for the spring and 1-2 in league play. The start of the contest was delayed almost two hours by rain.
Olga Bienzobas and Alexia Romero defeated Megan Basson Paula Cerda 6-1 in the No. 1 doubles and Tiffani Nash and Valentina Vasquez took the No. 2 position with a 6-3 victory over Vianne Schwab and Roberta Sechi to earn the doubles point.
Bearkats India Fenieys and Linn Svaerd held a 5-3 lead over Zoie Epps/Ana Rodrigues (TECH) when their match was stopped after the Bulldogs clinched the doubles point.
Louisiana Tech's winning three singles points came at the Nos. 1, 3 and 5 positions. Olga Bienzobas defeated Megan Basson 6-0, 6-1 at number one, Valentina Vasquez topped Roberta Sechi 6-2, 6-1 at No. 3 and Zoie Epps downed Linn Svaerd 6-1 at the five spot.
Paula Cerda led Ana Rodrigues 7-5 5-1 at No. 2 singles while Linn Svaerd trailed Zoe Epps 6-1 6-3 at the No. 5 spot when the match was stopped.
Next up for Sam Houston are the Bearkats' final two home matches of the 2024 spring dual match season. The Bearkats play host to CUSA foes NM State on April 4 and Jax State on April 7.
