RUSTON, La. — Louisiana Tech used a two-run first inning to secure a Conference USA series victory over Sam Houston with a 5-1 win on Saturday at Bundrick Field.
The Bearkats dropped to 0-2 in league play and 9-12 overall. The two teams will play the finale Sunday at 1 p.m.
The Bulldogs scored two runs off Sam Houston starter
Amy Abke in the first inning thanks to an RBI single that also led to an error to score another run.
The Kats got something cooking in the second inning when
Brodie Quinlan reached on an infield single and advanced to third on an error.
Hannah Scheaffer managed to drive in the only run of the game with a sacrifice fly.
Louisiana Tech scored two in the third inning and another in the fourth to put the game out of reach as Sam Houston failed to get anything else going at the plate.
Abke took the loss despite allowing only two earned runs in 2 1/3 innings to fall to 3-3 on the season.
Mika Vento threw 3 2/3 innings, allowing one run on three hits with four strikeouts.
